LANGKAWI (Bernama): Police have detained a 36-year-old woman to assist investigations into the discovery of a dead infant in a black rubbish bag and infested with maggots in Kampung Dato Syed Nahar, Mukim Kuah here.

Langkawi district police chief Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the woman, who is also a single mother with other three children, was arrested on Thursday (May 2) night.

He added the investigations revealed that the baby, whose gender is yet to be ascertained, was a result of the suspect's relationship with her boyfriend.

"The investigations also showed that the suspect, who worked as a security guard at a school, dumped the baby after giving birth at her workplace four days ago.

"The suspect claimed to have experienced excessive blood loss before giving birth to the baby and decided to place the infant in the plastic bag before dumping it at the location where the body was found," he said.

He added the suspect would be brought to the Langkawi magistrate's court to obtain a remand order on Friday (May 3), and the case would be investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
