SANDAKAN: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili is amused that the DAP has gone to the extent of lodging a police report against Parti Bersatu Sabah's campaign material when it was taken from the national media.
Referring to the billboard with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s remarks – “If Vivian wins, look for me. If lose, nothing I can do." – he said: "All what our campaigners did was to reproduce what Astro (Awani) has already run."
Ongkili said once something was broadcast by the national television or radio, it became public knowledge.
“Why so upset about it?
"The affected people must be feeling guilty. We didn’t create the story. Siapa yang makan cili, dia rasa pedas lah.
“But they know it’s not in their favour, and try to find reasons to make a police report. We have explained our position to the police and Election Commission,” said Ongkili.
He told reporters this after joining PBS candidate Linda Tsen in a walkabout at a market, as part of her campaign trail on Thursday (May 2) morning, when he was informed that DAP had lodged a police report against the billboard material.
Ongkili said they purposely picked the quote from Lim because it was a threatening statement that Sandakan observers should take note of.
“We leave it to public to interpret,” he added.
