KUALA LUMPUR: The Star has bagged two awards at the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards 2018.
Lee Chonghui won the A. Samad Ismail Young Journalist Award while Zulhaimi Baharuddin bagged the Best Frontpage Design Award on Friday (April 26).
Lee won RM5,000, a trophy and certificate for her works titled "Words hit harder, education is a right for all and giving special needs children equal chance".
Zulhaimi won RM10,000, a trophy and certificate for his designs titled "Catch me if you can", "Clash in the diamond ring" and "Family feud".
The Star and mStar also bagged consolation prizes in five other categories with winners walking away with RM1,000 each, trophies and certificates.
The prestigious Kajai Award were won by journalists Ahmad Mustakim Zulkifli and Luqman Ridhwan Mohamed Nor from Kosmo!
They bagged RM30,000, a trophy and certificate.
Tan Sri Johan Jaafar won the 12th National Journalist Award. He received RM30,000, a trophy and certificate.
There were 16 categories with 286 entries for this year.
Earlier, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, when launching the Malaysian Journalists Night 2019, announced scholarships for journalists wishing to further their studies at local public universities.
