GOPENG: Search and rescue (SAR) personnel will conduct another sweep in the area where an ultra marathon runner is believed to have gone missing near Kampung Pintu Padang here.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain said 29-year-old Mohammad Ashraf Hassan's mobile phone signal was last traced at about 2.8km from the finishing line and SAR personnel would conduct another search in the area.
"It is somewhere near the fifth and sixth checkpoint of the race.
"The firemen have taken the initiative to search these areas but we will try again," he told reporters when launching a big-scale SAR on Saturday (April 13).
He said another search would be conducted of areas previously covered, including Sungai Geroh
"We will also try to widen our search to as many locations as possible until late in the evening today," he added.
Ashraf,went missing while participating in the ultra marathon on March 23.
The SAR operation has entered its 22nd day.
Comm Razarudin said he believes and hopes that Mohd Ashraf can be found.
"We hope, if not today, then maybe tomorrow or the day after.
"We need to solve his disappearance," he said, adding that the SAR effort consists of some 170 people, including policemen, firemen, Rela personnel, villagers and the Civil Defence Department.
"Once this big-scale SAR operation ends, we will hold a smaller-scale search," he added.
