Cops on hunt for three robbers after jewellery heist in Kepong

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are on the hunt for three suspects believed to be involved in a jewellery shop robbery at a shopping complex near Manjalara here.

City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the incident occured at around 11.44am on Wednesday (April 10).

"We received a call about the robbery, and dispatched a team to the scene.

"Based on the CCTV footage, we believe three suspects wearing helmets and masks were involved.

"Further investigations revealed the suspects got into an accident near a petrol station in Kepong while fleeing on motorcycles following the robbery," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 11).

He added that two of the suspects who were involved in the collision managed to escape on another motorcycle with the assistance of an accomplice.

"Footage of the accident has been collected from the area, as well as from dash camera footage from a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

"The suspects left a Yamaha motorcycle at the scene together with a bag containing jewellery, a knife, gloves and a mask," he said

Comm Mazlan added that investigations revealed the suspects entered the shopping complex from an emergency entrance on the first floor using a screwdriver.

"We are now tracing the whereabouts of the suspects involved.

"The case is being investigated as armed gang robbery," he said, urging anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 03 2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
