KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian teenager climbed over the walls of the mosque and ran nearly 1.5km to escape the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday.

Idris Khairudin, 14, had gone to the Al-Noor Mosque for prayers but decided to sit in the back rows of the congregation.

While waiting, he heard gunshots and sounds of glass breaking and calls to run.

“Idris hurried out of the building and climbed over the wall of the mosque,” said his sister Nur Balqis Khairudin, 20.

Nur Balqis, a student at the Hagley College in Christchurch, said she told him to head to the college when he called her.

“I had to ask passers-by for a lift to college so that we could get Idris. We then brought him home and called our mother,” said Nur Balqis. — Bernama
