Thumbs up for girl who worked as part-time masseur

BALIK PULAU: Nur Fatin Amira Mohd Yusof, who scored 7As and 1B in the SPM exam, used to supplement her family’s income by working as a masseur.

The 17-year-old student of SMK Pondok Upeh said she earned RM50 per session, but stopped in March last year to focus on her studies.“I learnt massage techniques from my dad and accompanied him to massage sessions for his customers.

“Sometimes, the cleaners at my school complain of neck and shoulder ache. That’s when my service was needed,” she said after receiving her results at the school yesterday.

Nur Fatin Amira was one of the four top scorers in her school. The youngest in her family, she said she was thrilled with her results as she had only aimed for 6As.

“I am really thankful to my father, who has gone through so much to help me get through secondary school,” she added.

Nur Fatin Amira said her father Mohd Yusof Damat, 66, began providing massage services after retiring from his previous job as a security guard.

“I know it is not easy for him to still be working at this age, as most parents would probably be enjoying their retirement.

“But my father could not. He continued to work as a masseur to support my studies,” she said after receiving the top scorer award at her school.

Mohd Yusof Damat said he was proud of Nur Fatin Amira’s achievement, describing her as a filial and understanding daughter.

“She has been very thoughtful and understanding of our situation.

“She also received the yearly Biasiswa Kecil Persekutuan of RM900 since she entered Form 1,” he added.

A total of 21,305 students from Penang took SPM last year.
