Man, 52, detained for insulting Hindu religion


KUALA LUMPUR: A 52-year-old man has been detained for posting lewd and insulting remarks on the Hindu religion, say Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police said the man, with the Facebook username Zamri Bin Abd Razak was detained on Monday (March 11).

"He is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing

disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will on grounds of religion.

"He is also investigated under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communication Act for misusing network facilities and services," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 12).

The IGP advised the public not to misuse social media or other forms of communication to upload provocative postings that touched on religion and racial sensitivities.

"Such acts will spark tensions among the people of various races and religions, thus it must be stopped at once.

"We will take stern action against any party who still commit such offensive acts," the IGP said.
