Jln TAR to close for one month from April 1

KUALA LUMPUR: In a move to make Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman into a pedestrian area, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will close the road for a trial period starting April 1.

The Jalan Isfahan (in front of Sogo shopping centre) to Jalan Melayu stretch will be closed from 8am until midnight on weekends for one month after the decision is gazetted.

During the road closure, only buses, taxis, Fire and Rescue vehicles, ambulances, police and enforcement vehicles will be able to use the route.

At the same time, DBKL will ensure traders operating in Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Lorong Gombak will vacate so that shops can load and unload their supplies.

Licensed traders in the area will be moved to other areas nearby after a kiosk has been built.

In the effort to clean-up Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the night market and Ramadan Bazaar will also be moved to another location to be announced soon.

In a statement, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad thanked all parties involved in the decision making process, especially the Batu Road Retailers Association (Barra) and Masjid India Business Owners Association (MIBA) and the public who had given feedback on this issue.

“I am confident that this decision will benefit all people in the process of developing the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman area into the likes of the golden triangle in Bukit Bintang,” he said.
