KOTA KINABALU: Three Form Five students in Tawau were beaten up by two of their schoolmates on March 1.
It is learnt that prior to the incident, which occurred at 6pm, one of the three victims had made fun of another 17-year-old student. The latter, feeling angry and humiliated, told his 16-year-old friend about it.
The duo then went after the student and his friends and beat them up.
Tawau police chief Asst Comm Fadil Marsus said the incident happened outside the school compound as another student captured a video of the fight with her phone.
"The school principal saw the video which was circulating on social media and called the students involved into his office," he said.
The three students who were attacked were later taken to the hospital for examination.
"They received outpatient treatment for minor cuts and bruises," ACP Fadil said, adding the students' parents were informed and asked to meet with the principal over the matter.
He said the teacher informed police of the incident at about 3.30pm on March 4.
ACP Fadil said the case would at present be handled by the school's management.
