Rantau by-election set for April 13

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that polling for the Rantau by-election will be on April 13.

EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun added that nomination day is March 30, while early voting is on April 9.

He announced the dates following the meeting held on Wednesday (March 6).

This will be the seventh by-election to-date after the May 9 general election last year.

The Rantau by-election was triggered following the Federal Court's decision to uphold an earlier ruling by an Election Court to nullify the Rantau GE14 resuts.

In GE14, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan won the state seat in Negri Sembilan unopposed.

Election Court judge Azimah Omar allowed an election petition filed by Dr S. Streram, who was denied entry to submit his nomination form due to the absence of a tag or pass.

Dr Streram had sought for a by-election to be held for the seat on grounds that Mohamad's election was not valid.
