Muhyiddin rubbishes allegations he was campaigning on polling day in Semenyih

KAJANG: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied claims that he was campaigning for Pakatan Harapan on polling day.

This comes after pictures of him greeting Pakatan supporters were shared on the social media page of a rival political party.

The party alleged that the Election Commission could not take action against Muhyiddin because he is the Home Minister.

However, Muhyiddin stressed that he was not campaigning but merely making his rounds.

"There is no such thing. This is not my first time managing an election in the past 40 years. There is no difference between what I did then and what I am doing now.

"If these allegations are based on me making my rounds, that's just nonsense. So please don't spread such accusations," he said in a press conference at Kajang police headquarters on Saturday (March 2).

Muhyiddin also said polling day had been relatively peaceful save for a few provocative acts in certain areas.

The Semenyih by-election is a four-cornered fight between Pakatan's Muhammad Aiman Zainali, Barisan Nasional's Zakaria Hanafi, Parti Sosialis Malaysia's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng.

It was called following the death of Bersatu Assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor on Jan 11.

Polling centres close at 5.30pm today.
