PUTRAJAYA: PAS will respond soon to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's claims that the party paid RM1.4mil to settle a lawsuit between its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said he has documents to rebut Anwar’s claims.
“The proof is in the document. We will respond to this soon,” he said when met at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here Thursday (Feb 28).
Asked when he would do this, Takiyuddin said, “Soon … it can be anytime.”
Anwar claimed he has evidence to show that PAS paid RM1.4mil to settle the lawsuit.
The PKR president said he was in possession of bank statements that show the amount was paid to Rewcastle Brown.
In 2017, Abdul Hadi sued Rewcastle Brown for libel in London over an August 2016 Sarawak Report article alleging that PAS received RM90mil to guarantee its support for Umno and Barisan Nasional.
She filed a counterclaim in October 2017 and on Feb 1 this year, Abdul Hadi opted for an out-of-court settlement.
