SEMENYIH: Pakatan Harapan’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali (pic) might not be a good orator, but the political novice is a bright individual who has the potential to be an assemblyman, says Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Yes, I admit that as young man, he might need some time to win the hearts of the community. But he is smart and qualified. Which means he has the potential to be an elected representative,” he said.
Muhyiddin said the 30-year-old’s public speaking should not be an indicator on his ability to carry out his responsibilities.
“I admit and understand the shortcomings. But don’t take it to mean he is not capable of doing the work.
“We will try to improve his performance naturally. But, give us some time and let him be as he is for the time being. I believe he will demonstrate a better performance.”
Muhyiddin was speaking during a press conference at Pakatan’s operations centre for the Semenyih polls on Thursday (Feb 21).
Aiman’s performance has been recently scrutinised by observers, as video clips have shown that the 30-year-old isn’t comfortable with hard questions by the media.
Party colleague Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman also admitted on Wednesday (Feb 20) that Aiman isn’t a great orator, saying that he was known as “someone who spoke little but served a lot”.
The Semenyih by-election, which will take place on March 2, and is set to see a four-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional, Pakatan, Parti Sosialis Malaysia and an independent candidate.
