SEGAMAT: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a civil servant and a company general manager for allegedly making false claims amounting to RM7,200.

The suspects, including a female, were arrested at about 2.30pm on Sunday (Feb 17) at Segamat’s MACC office to assist in investigations.

They allegedly made false claims to the Tangkak Industrial Training Institute (ILP) for a programme on organisation management that is not conducted.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Act 2009 that carries a penalty of either a RM10,000 fine, or five times the amount of bribe, depending on which is higher, as well as a maximum jail sentence of 20 years.

When contacted, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest, and said the two suspects were remanded for five days, starting on Monday (Feb 18).
