SEMENYIH: Voting Pakatan Harapan in the Semenyih by-election is the "logical choice" as the coalition is in control of both the federal and state governments, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic).
The Pakatan deputy president urged Semenyih folks to back their candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali as he would serve as a better link to the government.
"After the 14th General Election, both the federal government and the Selangor government are administered by Pakatan.
"So it is quite simple and logical to realise that if there are problems affecting the residents such as development, it is better if the elected representative is from the governing party.
"The Pakatan candidate has an advantage that none of the other candidates have," said Muhyiddin at a press conference after the nomination process for the Semenyih by-election here Saturday (Feb 16).
Muhyiddin said issues affecting Semenyih voters include traffic jams, flooding, congested clinics and poor garbage management.
"These are the issues that have been brought up to me by some of the constituents. We are not mentioning this because we want to promise anything, as we know that would be against election laws.
"But we are taking note of it and if our candidate can win, perhaps he can do something about it," said Muhyiddin.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Aiman said he was not too worried about the experience of his opponent Zakaria Hanafi of Barisan.
"My opponent may be older and has more experience with the locals than me, but I too have many friends in Semenyih. A lot of people know me too from the work I have been involved with the party. So I have no worries," said Muhammad Aiman, who is Hulu Langat Bersatu treasurer.
Muhammad Aiman will face Zakaria, Parti Sosialis Malaysia's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng in the Semenyih by-election.
The by-election was triggered following the death of its incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor of Bersatu due to heart attack on Jan 11.
