Guan Eng stays mum on accounting credentials, says leave it to his lawyers

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng: Improved tax collection strategies and continued economic growth will ensure that Malaysia readily meets its fiscal consolidation objectives.

PUTRAJAYA: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (pic) has refused to answer questions on his credentials as a chartered accountant.

“I will leave this for my lawyers (to deal with),” he said on Wednesday (Feb 13).

Despite threats of being sued, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong continues to raise questions on Lim’s credentials as an accountant.

The Ayer Hitam MP, while referring to documents released by Lim’s political secretary Tony Pua, pointed out that Lim’s membership into the Australian Society of Accountants on Feb 21, 1984, merely stated that he was admitted as a provisional member.

On Tuesday (Feb 12), Pua warned media outlets and politicians of possible lawsuits from the minister if they continue to question his education credentials.

Lim’s lawyers have advised that he reserved his rights to file such lawsuits against any newspapers “that continue to print lies to diminish and question his position, stature and credibility”, Pua read from a prepared statement at a press conference on Tuesday.
