KULAI: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian ignored questions from the media when asked about his education credentials following the recent scrutiny of other officials’ qualifications.
The Kempas assemblyman, who is also state Pakatan Harapan chairman, attended a Chinese New Year gathering organised by Yayasan Sejahtera Kulai at Dewan Serbaguna Taman Putri Kulai here on Saturday (Feb 9).
After the event, members of the media tried to ask Osman about rumours on social media calling his academic qualifications into question.
He ignored the questions and smiled before getting into his car and leaving the premises quickly.
The Facebook page Ops Johor has alleged that Osman did not obtain a degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia, and uploaded a screenshot of a web search for Osman’s name at UPM’s portal that showed no results.
The Johor government portal states that Osman obtained a certificate in accounts from Metro Manila College in the Philippines in 1985, as well as a diploma and degree in accounts from UPM.
It does not mention the year when the diploma and degree from UPM were awarded.
Apart from Osman, Perak state executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong has also had his qualifications questioned.
The issue of academic qualifications blew up when the legitimacy of Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki’s degree was questioned earlier this month.
