PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan should employ a smarter approach when dealing with racial and religious issues, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"PKR accepts the results of the Cameron Highlands by-election and congratulates (Barisan Nasional candidate) Ramli Mohd Nor for being chosen as the people's representative.
"We also congratulate the Election Commission for managing the by-election well, especially for public complaints and speedy announcement of results," said Anwar.
Ramli won the Cameron Highlands by-election on Saturday (Jan 26) with a resounding majority over Pakatan's M. Manogaran and two other independent candidates.
"I believe this result will be a reminder to Pakatan leaders that we must be aware of the people's frustrations with the economy and the cost of living.
"We must work harder to fulfil Pakatan's 14th General Election manifesto and deal with any racial or religious issues wisely," said Anwar in a statement on Sunday (Jan 27).
The Cameron Highlands seat, which was won by Barisan's Datuk C. Sivarraajh during GE14, was nullified by the Election Court on Nov 30 which found that corrupt practices were committed to induce voters to vote.
