3m-long croc evicted from drain in Kuching

KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has captured a crocodile trapped in a drain at the Demak Baru residential area here.

Seven personnel from the Petra Jaya fire station took about an hour to tie up and remove the crocodile on Friday morning (Jan 25).

Fire chief Tan Min Chai said the department received an emergency call about a crocodile sighting at 9.50am.

"When we arrived at the scene, we found a large adult crocodile, about 3m-long, trapped in a drain.

"We believe the crocodile came from the nearby river, as there was a king tide in the last few days.

"We think it got lost or was looking for food or a nest," he said when met at the scene.

Tan added that the department had contacted the Sarawak Forestry Corporation to collect the crocodile for further action.

"We will transport it to the Petra Jaya fire station, while waiting for Sarawak Forestry personnel," he said.
