CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Calling on Malays to vote only for the Muslim candidate in Cameron Highlands is wrong, says Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh.
She said Umno and PAS politicians had no moral authority do so.
Fuziah, who is also deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, was expressing her support for a police report lodged by Perak assemblyman Howard Lee yesterday against PAS Youth Chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi.
Lee alleged that Muhammad Khalil made false statements which were racist and chauvinist, with the aim to incite hate against Pakatan Harapan.
Lee quoted a report by portal Malaysiakini, which stated that Umno and PAS leaders – including Muhammad Khalil, Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Umno Youth Chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman – had taken turns to paint DAP as anti-Malay and anti-Islam.
The portal also wrote that Muhammad Khalil alleged, during the joint Umno-PAS ceramah in Kampung Keledek in Jelai state seat, that DAP wanted to remove Islam as the official religion of the country, and had “disturbed” both Islamic institutions and the monarchy since coming to power.
Lee said such false accusations were serious, and urged the police to investigate the statements by the opposition leaders.
