Schoolteacher goes missing in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A 27-year-old teacher from SK Genting in Balik Pulau has gone missing, and her relatives are completely in the dark over where she could have gone.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said Nur Farhana Ibrahim, a Islamic Studies teacher was last seen in school as usual on Monday.

He said that Nur Farhana's 30-year-old husband, known as Naim, from Langgar, Kedah, last saw her at the Alor Setar toll plaza as she headed to school at 5.45am on Monday (Jan 14).

"However at 4.30pm, his calls to her mobile phone went unanswered. He later found Nur Farhana's phone on top a cupboard in their bedroom.

"Nur Farhana's friends and family members have no idea of her whereabouts but colleagues spotted her car outside the school gate.

"The school's headmaster confirmed that Nur Farhana had arrived to teach her pupils as usual on Monday but failed to turn up the next day.

"Nur Farhana's purse, car keys and stationery were found on her table in the teachers' room in school," said Supt Anbalagan.

Her husband lodged a report over her disappearance on Tuesday (Jan 15) after failing to track her down.

The man said his wife had received treatment for depression in 2014.

It is understood that the woman has a history of stress disorder and was receiving treatment.

The couple has a three-year-old daughter.
