PETALING JAYA: Lim Guan Eng should prove his allegations that MCA has received funds from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), says the party.

“If he has proof of MCA accepting funds from 1MDB, or suspects that MCA is involved in corruption, please lodge a report with the police and MACC,” said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The party president said it should be noted that the MACC had launched a probe into 1MDB since Pakatan Harapan took over the federal administration.

“Lim should allow the MACC to carry out its duties independently and to report the progress of its investigation.

“I promise that MCA, under my leadership, will give its full cooperation to the authorities on the 1MDB investigation, even though the alleged transfer of funds happened before I took over the helm of the party,” he said in his Facebook.

His post came following the call made by Lim, the DAP secretary-general, for MCA to return funds channelled to the party from 1MDB.

Dr Wee also said that have if Lim had read carefully an article in Sunday Star, he would not have accused MCA of receiving 1MDB funds.

“Since he accuses MCA of receiving 1MDB money, he must prove his allegations.

“The onus is on the prosecution or the accuser to prove guilt of the accused in the legal process.

“This is basic legal knowledge that he should understand,” he said.

As the Finance Minister, Dr Wee said Lim should know that there was a law governing banking secrecy.

“Under the Financial Services Act, MCA will have no right to tell a bank to disclose the origin of the money given to the party in 2013 for election purposes,” he said.

Dr Wee said Lim had assumed that the election funds of RM16.5mil, handed to MCA’s previous president Tan Sri Dr Chua Soi Lek by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, belonged to the 1MDB.
