JMM president Azwanddin arrested

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah Ariffin Abu Bakar for his speech at a rally on Tuesday.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president was picked up by police around 2.40pm at the Kompleks Keramat Mall, Jalan Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur.

"He is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation as well as 504 for insulting someone

"He will be remanded at Klang court around 9am tomorrow," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Dec 26).

Azwanddin is being probed for his speech at a rally in Klang, where he used provocative language and repeatedly used a derogatory word against National Unity and Social Well-being Minister P. Waytha Moorthy.

He also urged the crowd to attack a police station if no action was taken in the murder case of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

The rally where Azwanddin delivered his speech was organised by Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Geras).

Geras president Abu Bakar Mohamed express regret over the words uttered by the JMM president, saying that it was against the guidelines set by Geras to all the speakers at the rally.

Muhammad Adib, 24, suffered serious injuries after being assaulted while taking part in a fire-fighting operation during a temple riot on Nov 27.

He died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17.

To date, 24 people have been charged in connection with the riot at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya.
