PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians can feel the effects of economic recovery next year, says the Prime Minister.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government had undertaken efforts to improve the economy since it took over after the May 9 polls.
He acknowledged that the people have yet to sense the improvement on the economy.
"But when the time comes in 2019, the rakyat will feel relieved," he said at Pakatan Harapan’s charity dinner on Sunday night (Dec 9).
Dr Mahathir noted the low income and poor were the most effected by the high cost of living.
"i will ask the Minister of Finance to help the poor with whatever money that we have.
"Even though its (money) little, we will help, because Pakatan hears the plea of the people," he said.
The charity dinner raised about RM2.8mil from the sale of tables and auction of photographs of its key leaders.
Dr Mahathir's photograph after his swearing in fetched RM500,000 while one photograph of his first day in office was auctioned for RM350,000.
