Policeman accused of raping teen in a police station toilet arrested, says Home Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman accused of raping a 19-year-old girl in the toilet of the Sarikei police station has been arrested, says Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"With regards to the Sarikei police report by the victim on Oct 29, I wish to inform the House that the police have arrested the suspect, a police personnel.

"Investigations are still ongoing and will be completed soon for investigation papers to be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor," he said when wrapping up his ministerial reply on issues raised during the Budget 2019 debates in Parliament on Monday (Nov 19).

Muhyiddin was replying to Alice Lau (PH-Lanang), who raised the issue in Parliament last week.

Lau had urged Bukit Aman to take over investigations as the victim had been harassed to settle the case.

Lau also questioned why the CCTV at the Sarikei police station was not functioning at the material time.

On the issue of the non-functioning CCTV, Muhyiddin said he will look into the matter.

He assured Lau that all relevant evidence would be adduced when the case is brought to court.

The 19-year-old shop assistant of mixed parentage alleged that she was raped by a police corporal in the Sarikei police station toilet on Oct 29.
