Rafizi calls on members to support Anwar, says PKR's strength is based on differences

SHAH ALAM: PKR’s strength is based on its members’ differences, says outgoing party vice-president Rafizi Ramli (pic).

“We need to maintain and respect those differences, which differentiate us from Umno and PAS.

“No matter how bad the PKR election was, we learn to manage different viewpoints and approaches in a productive manner, and the party will never split,” Rafizi told members in his winding-up speech at the PKR National Congress on Sunday (Nov 18).

Rafizi also said it was vital for the party to support Anwar as PKR's incoming president.

He asked members to unite, adding that he had decided not to dispute the contest for deputy president post.

“I made the decision not to dispute because if this continues, the one who gets attacked will be Anwar,” he said.

He said any conflict could be resolved through the party’s internal mechanism, to avoid being attacked by outsiders.

The former Pandan MP also spoke on the expected future economic slowdown, and lukewarm support for PKR and its Pakatan Harapan partners.

He said this was some of the future challenges incoming party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would face when the latter assumed the Prime Minister’s position.

In winding up, there was a light moment when Rafizi cited a poem in tribute to outgoing president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, saying it was difficult to find a person like her.

In a repeat of Saturday's (Nov 17) reconciliation, he embraced incumbent deputy president and rival Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as well as other vice-presidents.
