KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun is the new MCA secretary-general, the first woman to hold the post.

Newly-minted MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong announced the appointment after the first MCA central committee meeting under the new leadership.

"Chew is someone who knows the party well, and she is very experienced.

She will be the first lady to hold the post," he told a press conference here on Friday (Nov 16).

Chew was previously the vice-president of the party and a former deputy minister.

Meanwhile, Dr Wee said Datuk Lee Chee Leong had been appointed the new treasurer-general of the party.

"He is a former deputy finance minister and an exco, very well-trained," he said.

Dr Wee was elected as the new president on Nov 4, with Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon as his deputy.
