Villagers cut off after bridge collapse in Nanga Kesit in Sarawak

MIRI: Flash floods due to a swelling river resulted in the collapse of a suspension bridge in Nanga Kesit locality in the Lubok Antu district in southern Sarawak.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the rushing waters caused by the overflowing river brought down the bridge.

Bomba Betong station received alert for help from affected villagers on Wednesday (Nov 14) night.

"The force of the rushing water caused the bridge to collapse.

"There are villagers who are cut off as they cannot cross the river," said Bomba Sarawak.

Fire and Rescue personnel are at the site to help the affected villagers.

Lubok Antu is in the Sri Aman division.
