Taskforce to probe Education Ministry wrongs under BN rule says Maszlee

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry is set to create a taskforce to probe wrongdoings involving its ministry under the former Barisan Nasional administration, said Dr Maszlee Malik.

"I will from now onwards reveal a lot of skeletons that have been left by the previous minister.

"The taskforce will look into all the direct negotiation deals and all non-compliant projects and tenders which were given out during the previous administration," the Education Minister told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Nov 13).

Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who was the former education minister, was called in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Oct 17 to assist investigations into a solar hybrid power project for remote schools in Sarawak.

However, Dr Maszlee stressed that the taskforce would not be embarking on a witch hunt, saying that it's a reminder for current ministers not to repeat the same mistakes.

"People deserve to know because it involves their money," he added.
