Fuel subsidy: Govt to study mechanism to ensure it’s not abused

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will study the fuel subsidy mechanism before implementing it to ensure it is not abused. 

 

"Those driving luxury cars should not hold their breaths," said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng in a post-budget press conference today (Nov 3). 

 

The fuel subsidy is expected to be implemented in the second quarter of next year. 

 

It was announced yesterday (Nov 2) that motorists driving cars with engine capacities below 1,500cc and riding motorcycles below 125cc can enjoy RON95 petrol at a lower price.

 

Eligible cars can receive the subsidy of up to 100 litres per month, while motorcycles are eligible for 40 litres per month.
