KUALA LUMPUR: Several Kedah PKR lawmakers want police to investigate Datuk A. Kadir Jasin under the Sedition Act over the senior journalist's blog post allegedly insulting the Sultan of Kedah.
Datuk Johari Abdul (PH-Sungai Petani) expressed his disappointment over the post which was published on Oct 30 and had gone viral on social media.
"I urged the police to investigate Kadir under the Sedition Act as the post can bring insinuation as if the Sultan of Kedah was taking advantage of his position while making business and abusing his power," he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Nov 1).
Johari said that the Sultan of Kedah is a well respected Ruler and such remarks cannot be tolerated.
"I do not know what is his motive to publish such a post following the recent coronation of the Kedah Sultan.
"This has create a lot of uneasiness on the ground especially in Kedah," said Johari who is also Gurun state assemblyman.
He said a police report will be lodged soon.
Asked why the need to investigate under the Sedition Act as the Pakatan Harapan government had promised to repealed the law, Johari said it can still be used before it is repealed.
"We have to look at the seriousness of the remarks. This is a serious matter. We can also look at other relevant laws," said Johari.
M. Karupayai (PH-Padang Serai), who is a former army officer, wanted stern action against Kadir.
"Whoever insults the royalty, especially the Sultan of Kedah, should be investigated," he said.
