'Too late' to ask Mahathir and Pribumi members to rejoin Umno, says Mukhriz

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s “too late” to ask us to rejoin Umno, said Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

He was referring to Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa’s remarks, inviting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and other Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) members to return to Umno.

“It is not very logical what he said.

“Just imagine, you want to invite someone who holds the position of Prime Minister and who is the chairman of a governing party to join the opposition,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Oct 25).

“I was fired from the party (Umno), and Dr Mahathir left the party on his own, so we know of Umno’s troubles since long ago.

“Previously we had sought to contribute to the Barisan Nasional government, but only now you’re inviting (us to join). It’s too late now,” he said.

Annuar had earlier reportedly invited Dr Mahathir to return to Umno as many members still respect him.

“Many Umno members including myself love and respect Tun (Dr Mahathir) with a sincere heart.

“God willing, Umno will not die. Anything terrible that happens, we will fix it together,” Annuar reportedly said.
