Deputy IGP: We will investigate RM2.5mil Umno-PAS transaction for links to 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will investigate the police report by Terengganu Amanah Youth on the supposed transaction of RM2.5mil between Umno and PAS for possible links to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim (pic) said that while he was not aware that the police report has been made yet, it will be investigated if a report was lodged.

“We will look at it of course, if the report is made.

“Then we will decide if the investigation would be conducted by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” he said at a press conference on Wednesday (Oct 10) at the Royal Malaysian Police College in Cheras.

He was responding to reporters who asked him about Terengganu Amanah Youth communication director Muammar Qaddafi Nasir’s claim that a police report has been lodged on the sum that was allegedly transferred from Umno to PAS, which may be linked to 1MDB.

To another question, Noor Rashid said so far police are not investigating former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who has been called for questioning several times by the MACC.

Noor Rashid had earlier closed a forum at the college titled “Preventive Law: National Security vs Human Rights” that was attended by 550 police officers.

He said that it was important to hold such forums and seminars for the younger police generation to promote discourse and emphasise on the important values that shape the Royal Malaysian Police.

“We will be holding five to six more of such seminars nationwide for our officers.

“We have to put our values like leadership, discipline, command and control at the forefront to continue serving this country properly,” he said.
