Shahrul Aman quits as Bersih chief to be Maszlee's press sec


KUALA LUMPUR: Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari (pic) has quit his post as acting Bersih 2.0 chairman with effect Oct 8, 2018.

In a statement, Shahrul said he had been called to serve at the Education Ministry as press secretary to its minister Dr Maszlee Malik.

He said an election will be held for the Bersih 2.0 steering committee on Nov 10, 2018, where a new chairperson and steering committee will be elected.

"In the transition, all matters should be referred to the executive director, Yap Swee Seng, as the caretaker," the statement read.

"Bersih 2.0 would like to thank the contribution made by Shahrul Aman in this struggle for democracy and clean and fair elections.

"We congratulate Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari for the appointment and wish him all the best in his new role and new tasks," it said.
