PORT DICKSON: Tan Sri Isa Samad, who is contesting as an independent candidate, will consider rejoining Umno after the Port Dickson by-election concludes.
“So far, I have no idea. My focus is to win the election. After the election, I will think (about it),”
Isa was speaking to reporters at the Port Dickson Municipal Council hall, when asked about the matter, after filing his nomination papers on Saturday (Sept 29).
Isa explained that the reason why he wanted to contest in the by-election despite Umno’s decision to abstain, was because Port Dickson is his home town.
“This is my hometown and this is my base. The seat is vacant and Umno refuses to stand. So I have to take this opportunity to stand as a PD (local),” he said.
Isa, who served as Negri Sembilan mentri besar for 22 years, also expressed confidence that some Umno members and locals would support him in the Oct 13 polls.
“I think some of the Umno members will support me and other people also. The ordinary people, non-party members, will also support.”
On Thursday (Sept 28), Isa revealed that he resigned from Umno last Tuesday (Sept 26) because he wanted to contest in the Port Dickson by-election.
The by-election was triggered after its former MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah decided to vacate his seat to make way for PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s return to the Parliament.
