KUALA LUMPUR: Party members must stay loyal as there is no other dominant Malay party except for Umno, says its deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
"Umno must be the safety net for the Malays.
"If we leave Umno, who else will fight for the strategic interest of the Malays?" he said in his address at the opening of Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings in conjunction with the party General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Friday night.
"Once we fall, don't ditch Umno. This is not our way. I am sure this is not the delegates' way too.
"Therefore, it is our responsibility to revive Umno," he said.
Mohamad Hasan slammed Pakatan Harapan, saying that the coalition does not represent a majority of the Malays.
"That is why, the call to rebuild Umno again and return it to its former glory, is not just an option but an obligation," he said.
"Without it, there will be no good platform for the Malays," he added.
He called on the wings to come forward and provide leadership to ensure that the party will return to its "moral purpose".
"Members must use their imagination, intellectual thinking and instinct to create thousands of approaches to stimulate the rejuvenation of the party.
"We need a blueprint to restore Umno's integrity as a movement for the Malays. It will take time and there will be no shortcuts.
"Umno must also have a specific strategy to win the 15th general election.
"We must provide solutions to all current national problems based on valid studies and smart thinking - not just empty talk or through media statements," Mohamad Hasan added.
