KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Dewan Negara has rejected the Bill to repeal the Anti-Fake News Act 2018.
This was announced by Dewan Negara president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, after 28 members voted against the repeal, compared to 21 who supported it. Three others chose not to vote.
The motion for the partisan vote was raised by Senator Khairul Azwan Harun after Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin completed the wrap up of the Bill for second reading.
Under Rule 45(4), Vigneswaran ordered for the bell to be rung for two minutes to allow the voting process to be carried out.
The Bill was passed in Parliament on Aug 16 after the third reading. - Bernama
