Waytha Moorthy launches new party to protect and promote interests of Indian community


Senator P. Waythamoorthy has been appointed as a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (National Unity and Social Well-being).

PETALING JAYA: A new political party, called the Malaysian Advancement Party (MAP), has been set up to protect, promote and advance the interest of the Indian community, said its pro-tem committee chairman P. Waytha Moorthy

The National Unity and Social Wellbeing Minister said an application for the new political party has been submitted to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

“The main objectives of the party, among others, will be to protect, promote and advance the interest of the Indian community’s political, economic, educational, cultural, religious and social interests.

“It will work towards continued empowerment and enhancement of the Indian community, coherent with the Federal Constitution, in raising their socio-economic standing and promoting unity and cohesion in the nation,” he said in a statement.   

He said with the birth of this new political party, there is now “a new hope and opportunity for the Indian community to ensure that effective representation can be provided so that no one is left behind.”

“All would now have an opportunity to enjoy the growth and development in the nation in a holistic manner,” he added.

He also noted that the party’s direction and vision is to adopt fundamental rights based approach for advancement, progressively moving away from state assisted, welfare and hand-out based community towards community empowerment and resilient.

“The values that we will propagate will include inclusiveness, equality, quality, originality, integrity and transparency with an effort to restore the intention of our forefathers in this multicultural nation.     

“We will work and participate with all political parties in Pakatan Harapan to enhance the reform agenda under this Malaysia Baru,” said the senator.
