Andy Lau in high spirits at ‘Hantu Kak Limah’ success party

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau took time off from his busy schedule to grace the celebratory party for the record-breaking box office success of Malaysian film Hantu Kak Limah (HKL) last night.

Lau, 56, attended the “Malam Together-gether Hantu Kak Limah” held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel.

He was joined by HKL executive producers Datuk Khairul Anwar Salleh, Gayatri Su-Lin Pillai and TP Lim, as well as director Mamat Khalid and cast members Datuk Awie, Delimawati, Zul Ariffin, Ropie, Mus May, Sharwani and Jue Aziz.

Lau was all smiles during the party, saying “we are looking forward to working with you guys again, again and again”.

“We are very happy that Andy Lau actually want to invest in us,” said Awie.

The Malaysian film was jointly produced by Astro Shaw and Infinitus Entertain­ment (M) Sdn Bhd, which was found­ed by Datuk Seri Robin Tan and Lau’s Focus Films, making the Hong Kong singer-actor one of the investors of the horror blockbuster.

HKL, which premiered on Aug 9, is now the highest grossing domestic film in Malaysia.

It is currently screening in 135 cinemas in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

The RM1.8mil-budget horror comedy has already raked in RM36mil and drawn 2.7 million movie-goers after screening for 24 days and continues to dominate the box office.

The movie’s theme song Srikandi Cintaku has also racked up three million views on YouTube.

Set in the fictional village of Kampung Pisang, HKL revolves around the escapades of a wandering ghost.

It is part of a local horror comedy franchise, which includes Zombi Kampung Pisang (2007), Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah (2010) and Husin, Mon dan Jin Pakai Toncit (2013).

With the overwhelming success of the film, Astro Shaw and Infinitus Entertainment announced the next instalment of the franchise – Zombie Ultimatum Kampung Pisang.

“We have many ghosts in mind, so there is already another movie in the pipeline,” said the director, confirming a sequel, which is set to begin filming next year.
