Khairy tells Jho Low to come back home and face the music

PETALING JAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin has told fugitive businessman, Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, to come back to Malaysia and face the authorities.

The Rembau MP and former Youth and Sports Minister said Low should stop hiding if he was innocent.

He said that Umno cannot move forward and rebuild the party due to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

“If you are innocent, stop hiding. For as long as you are on the run & the other related court cases (SRC) remain pending, my party cannot move beyond the 1MDB issue & rebuild,” Khairy said in a tweet on Sunday (Aug 12).

Earlier, a spokesman for Low said that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has shown that the proper legal process has no place in his regime.

“It is clear that the Mahathir regime has no interest in a fair and just legal process. His hijacking of established and long-running legal proceedings in other countries involving those governments (such as the United States) in the Equanimity matter prove this beyond any doubt,” the spokesman said.

This was after Dr Mahathir, who had spent an hour inspecting the superyacht on Saturday (Aug 11), said the RM1bil Equanimity would be sold “ASAP” to the highest bidder to recover stolen money used to buy the superyacht.

It will reportedly cost the government RM2mil a month in maintenance cost to upkeep Equanimity.

Dr Mahathir said the US Department of Justice (DoJ) had assured Malaysia that the yacht belongs to Low, bought using money stolen from 1MDB.

Equanimity, which is presently berthed at the Boustead Cruise Centre at Pulau Indah, had arrived in Malaysia on Aug 7 after being handed over by Indonesian authorities.
