KOTA KINABALU: Wildlife officials caught two crocodiles last week, and the reptiles will be put on sale via public auction on Aug 6.

Sabah Wildlife Department public relations officer Siti Nur’ain Ampuan Acheh said the crocodiles were caught on July 26 and 29.

“These crocs were caught in Kg Anak Kinarut and from a river near the Kelly Bay Resort in Tuaran,” she said in a statement Friday.

She said the crocodiles’ presence had been monitored for quite some time and wildlife rangers had planned to trap them for the safety of the public.

“The first croc, a female measuring more than 2.5m long, was captured in Kinarut while the second, a 3.3m long male, was trapped in Tuaran,” Siti said.

“Both crocodiles will be sold through public auction on Aug 6,” she said, adding that the reptiles are being kept at the Potuki Rescue Centre for health checks.

She said interested parties can view the crocodiles at the centre and then head to the department's office at Wisma Muis here on Monday.

Crocodile meat is considered an exotic delicacy among Sabahans and Chinese tourists among others.
