MELAKA: Former Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron has failed to defend his Tangga Batu Umno division chief position.

An unofficial result indicates that Idris was defeated by his ally-turned-nemesis Datuk Seri Mohammad Ali Mohamad who garnered 353 votes.

Idris secured 161 votes and official result is expected to be announced by 8pm, Saturday.

It was also made known that Idris's team also failed to secure other positions in the party poll.

Mohammad Ali had earlier accused Idris of vote-buying by offering division branch leaders with monthly cash aid.

Idris categorically denied the allegations.
