No, that guy arguing on the highway is not one of ours, says Home Ministry

PETALING JAYA: The Home Ministry has denied claims that an individual who appeared in a viral video arguing on a highway recently was from the Ministry.  

The Ministry said that it had identified the man and that he was formerly a member of the Volunteer Corps (Rela) who was recruited in February 2015 but suspended in May 2017 after he was investigated for misuse of power.  

“We urge those involved to come forward and make a police report so that the individual can be investigated by the police,” it said in a statement Thursday (June 21).  

The video clip showed a driver of a car being “sandwiched” by two multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs). A man from one of the MPVs is seen scolding and gesturing at the driver.  

When the cars stopped, the individual gets out of the car and claims he is from the Home Ministry.  

The Home Ministry added that it had forwarded the clip to the police for further action. 

“We would like to remind our staff and other individuals not to misuse our name for their own interests,” it said.
