PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Hashim Abdullah’s tenure as the Election Commission (EC) chairman will end on July 1.
“Hashim’s tenure as chairman will be shortened effective July 1,” the EC said in a statement.
It said the matter has been approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and is informed through an official letter by the Comptroller of the Royal Household, dated June 7.
“The EC would like to take this opportunity to thank Hashim for his contributions,” it added.
Hashim joined the EC on Sept 5, 2014, as deputy chairman, and was subsequently appointed as chairman on Jan 24, 2016.
His tenure was supposed to end in August 2020.
