Syahredzan Johan appointed Kit Siang's political secretary

PETALING JAYA: Lawyer Syahredzan Johan has been appointed as DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang's political secretary.

"The DAP is happy to announce the appointment of Sdr Syahredzan Johan, as the Political Secretary to DAP Parliamentary Leader and MP for Iskandar Puteri, Lim Kit Siang," the party said in a statement on Saturday (June 9).

Syahredzan graduated from Cardiff University, Britain in 2005 before he was called to the Bar of England and Wales.

He returned to Malaysia a year later and read in the chambers of RamRais & Partners, and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in October 2007.

Syahredzan is now a partner in the firm, based in Kuala Lumpur.

He is best known for public interest litigation relating to human rights and constitutional law.

Syahredzan served as an elected member of the Bar Council from 2012 to 2017.

He chaired the Bar Council National Young Lawyers Committee for three terms.

In 2009, Syahredzan was appointed as the co-deputy chairperson of the Bar Council's Constitutional Law Committee, that came up with the successful MyConstitution campaign.

Syahredzan was subsequently appointed as chairperson for two terms.

He also chaired the IT and Communications Committee of the Kuala Lumpur Bar.

Syahredzan is also an avid writer and has a column in The Star and Sinar Harian.
