Letter to end funding for Umno divisions, wings being circulated on social media

PETALING JAYA: A letter purportedly written by the Umno secretary-general stating that the monthly allocations for its party divisions and wings would be halted beginning May is circulating on social media.

In the letter dated May 22, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Umno headquarters had looked into its financial standing and members were informed that the allocation of funds to the divisions and wings would be stopped.

"However, it is hoped that the divisions and wings would continue with its operations as usual. Your cooperation on this matter is much appreciated," said the letter, which bears the party logo.

Umno divisions would be having their meetings until June 10.

In a statement on May 24, the Umno communications team said it was seeking to recover Umno funds seized by police while it was being transferred to the party's acting leadership following the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as president.
