Wan Azizah: Housewives' EPF to come out of spouses' existing contribution

KUALA KUBU BARU: The 2% Employee Provident Fund (EPF) contribution for housewives will be taken from the 11% contribution their spouses are already making.

Deputy Prime Minister and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic) confirmed that the housewives' EPF would not require additional contribution from their spouses.

"It will instead be taken from the existing 11% EPF contribution from employees," she told reporters at the Rumah Ehsan Kuala Kubu Baru on Tuesday (May 29).

She said she would be meeting EPF chief executive officer Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan on Thursday to discuss the mechanism.

Details have not been worked out for those who have more than one wife, she added.

On a separate matter, Dr Wan Azizah dismissed viral messages about a proposed marriage between her daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar and Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V as untrue.
