Nurul Izzah: Yes, I'll bring Radiohead to Malaysia – but after Ramadan, yah

PETALING JAYA: Now that Pakatan Harapan has won the general election, Malaysians are wondering if Nurul Izzah Anwar will fulfil her promise to bring English band Radiohead to Kuala Lumpur.

The Star's Malay-language portal mStar reported that the Permatang Pauh MP said she would fulfil her promise after Ramadan was over as she had to respect the Muslim holy month.

She added that she however needed to make way for the more pressing issues facing the country.

"Ramadan is the month of giving and good deeds. I will bring them after Ramadan.

"We (need) to take care of the economy first," she said.

In an interview with Esquire magazine five years ago, Nurul Izzah said she would have brought Radiohead to Malaysia if Pakatan Harapan won the 13th general election in 2013.

Malaysians are now asking her to fulfil her promise as the party has taken over Putrajaya.

Nurul Izzah, the eldest child of PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PKR president and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said she was committed to fulfilling the promise she made five years ago.

She reiterated this on Twitter.

"Indeed. A promise is a promise #PostRamadanDiscussion. Now get on to work!" she tweeted.

Radiohead and its enigmatic frontman Thom Yorke are famous for songs such as Creep and Karma Police, and albums such as OK Computer, Kid A, Hail to the Thief, and their most recent, 2016's A Moon Shaped Pool.

In 2017, they were nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2009, they were rated by Rolling Stone readers as the second-best artiste of the 2000s, while the magazine has rated 1997's OK Computer as one of the top 500 albums of all time.

They've also been described by one music critic as "the only band that matters".
