PETALING JAYA: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang (pic) has made it clear that he is not interested in becoming a minister but will continue to push for reforms to create a better Malaysia.
China Press reported that the Iskandar Puteri MP declined to be in the new Cabinet, claiming that there were enough capable and talented people.
In the current ministerial line-up announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, DAP has four ministers consisting of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Human Resource Minister M. Kulasegaran.
Previously, Lim was accused of harbouring intentions to be the prime minister if Pakatan Harapan won in the general election.
Umno leaders reportedly claimed that Lim was the one who “called the shots” in the coalition and was also its de facto leader.
Lim’s foray into politics started in 1966 when he became DAP’s national organising secretary.
He later went on to lead the party as the secretary-general and was later elected as party chairman succeeding DAP founding member Dr Chen Man Hin.
In 2004, he did not seek reappointment as chairman, and the late Karpal Singh replaced him.
Lim has since represented five different states as an MP in Bandar Melaka (1969), followed by Kota Melaka (1974), Petaling (1978), Tanjong (1986), Ipoh Timor (2004) and Iskandar Puteri (2013 till present).
He currently holds an advisory role in DAP.
